Some news on Late Antiquity since our last bulletin (of five years ago!)
La section canadienne existe toujours ; nos membres continuent à recevoir le bulletin envoyé de France. We hope that our members will continue to subscribe to our association. Membership fees have not changed : they are still $35/year for normal members, $25 for students. Notre trésorière est toujours Dr Mélanie Houle à l’Université d’Ottawa.
Nous avions reçu en septembre 2023 la visite de Dr Jeroen Wijnendaele à l’université d’Ottawa comme chercheur invité. He is currently a research fellow at Ghent University, https://research.flw.ugent.be/nl/jeroen.wijnendaele .

He gave a lecture and participated in a one-day conference on ‘Diplomacy in the Late Antique and Medieval Worlds’, at which Dr Lucas McMahon (then at the University of Ottawa, now at the University of Winnipeg) also spoke, as did Professor Hugh Elton (Trent) and others from the University of Ottawa.
La même année est sortie la 3e édition du manuel, A History of the Later Roman Empire, cette fois l’oeuvre de Stephen Mitchell et de Geoffrey Greatrex. The book now covers from 284 to 700 (rather than 641) and has been extensively updated. Ironically, the M.A. in Late Antiquity at the University of Ottawa was suspended in the following year, which means that no new students have been admitted since 2024.
Conor Whately (University of Winnipeg) has been very productive in his research : his most recent book, published by Brill in 2024, is Military Literature in the Medieval Roman World and Beyond.
Nous afficherons d’autres détails de nos membres au fur et à mesure que nous les recevons.
